There seems to be a new twist to the crisis that broke out on Wednesday at Aduwawa secondary school, Benin.
Academic activities in Aduwawa Senior Secondary School, Benin City were grounded Wednesday following a protest by the students over an alleged shooting of a student and use of tear gas on staff and students of the school by policemen.
Anglican Girls Grammar School, Benin City, Nigeria once a citadel of learning is now in a dilapidated state. This video shows the current state of the school buildings. The principals, teachers, and students are interviewed. They tell of the plight. The school is in dire need of a fence and security guards. Students cannot learn in an environment where hoodlums are constantly intruding and parading around the campus. Anything that's of value gets stolen. Security is of outmost importance. After watching this video, please be generous and donate towards the building of a fence. This project is being undertaken by the Anglican Girls' Grammar School Old Girls' Association, USA. Here is the reason why I've been a bit slow on here. I moved to another city in Southern Nigeria. I have been preoccupied with getting an apartment, moving in and starting my Medical Laboratory science training. It's been challenging but I'm happy with my progress so far. I'd love you to leave your questions regarding any of the subjects I had discussed in my video in the comment section below. Thank you. After a day of relaxing and recovery in Benin City, today I got out a little bit to explore one of the oldest cities in all of West Africa. Benin City was home one of the largest empires in all of Africa at one point. Early in the colonization period in Nigeria, the Benin empire actually made peace with the English. However, after a merchant was killed, the English retaliated by taking a massive quantity of bronze from Benin City. Eventually, that copper made Benin City famous. To this day, the people of this city are know as some of the best bronze workers in the world. I explored Benin City today by visiting the museum which was the best I went to in Nigeria, and actually was likely the best I'd been to in all of Africa to that point. It's a shame really they make it difficult to f...
Benin Travel Video - If youre heading to West Africa to unearth lost treasure, look no further than Benin. This club-shaped country, on the western edge of Nigeria, was once one of the most powerful empires in Africa -- the Dahomey kingdom. The ruins of the Dahomeyans palaces and temples can be seen in Abomey, while Ouidah is a poignant reminder of where their riches came from: the slave trade. The Route dEsclaves in Ouidah was the last walk on African soil for slaves bound for Brazil and the Caribbean. Museums here and in Porto Novo, Benins lagoon-side capital, examine the resultant Afro-Brazilian society and culture. Cotonou, on the other hand, is urban Africa at its most frazzling and polluted - but is not without its own charms, a lively nightlife and good shopping being a couple of th...
